1747. And even post-mortem, we can guess Vauban's influence, so strong it is in terms of fortifications in France at that time.

For illustrating this, here's what Vauban left in Belle-Île-en-Mer .

Vauban took the charge of the island fortifications in 1683, when they were almost finished to built as originaly planned, but he considered the site as deffective on many aspects and re-created it as a master project, consisting in a main citadel flanked and protected by six bastions.

Only the citadel will be built.

Snow here in The Netherlands on the coast, that is becoming kind of rare here, especially this early in the winter.

this night... and it says 16 deg on Tuesday.

Windy, rainy, cold and grey. There's no way to guess where the sun is. I turned the light on here, at 10:17 am French time. :undecided:

According to the forecast, the first storm of 2018 is comming. It should be named Carmen.

Winds at 130 km/h are expected here on New Year's Day, Beaufort force 12 should be reached at sea.

Here's an example of what it means for sailors, extract from the movie Océans, directed by Jacques Perrin and released in 2009.

Starring :

Trawler Veronika, trawler Coppella, SNSM sea rescue patrol boat La Louve, emergency tow vessel Abeille Bourbon, anti-submarine frigate Latouche-Tréville.
