Today is Remembrance day in The Netherlands, the 4th of may is when we remember all the dead from WW2 and other wars. It means at 20:00 we all are silent for 2 minutes paying respect to those who gave their lives for freedom, democracy and to help others during times of war. Tomorrow is Liberation Day which is a national holiday and of course the date on which The Netherlands were liberated from Nazi occupation.

Harmony of the Seas: the largest liner in the world finally comes
:surprised:

The world's largest cruise ship to be delivered Thursday at Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL), more than three years after the American owner has placed the order with STX shipyards amounting to almost one billion euros . The Harmony of the Seas, a veritable floating city, should, if weather conditions permit, leave St. Nazaire on Sunday at midday. It will start from May 22 next inaugural cruise from the port of Southampton, in southern England.

Exceptional measurements
With 362 meters long, 66 meters wide and 72 meters high, the Harmony of the Seas will make a splash in ports around the world. Its size is the equivalent of a twenty story building. In all, this ship except for the category of ships Oasis can accommodate 8,500 people, including crew. The ship has six engines with a power enabling it to achieve 20.2 knots (about 38km / h) cruise speed. 60,000 tons of steel were required for its construction, as well as 4000 km of cable, 500 tons of paint ... All for a bill approaching one billion euros.

Fancy a cruise ? :yipi:

René Rossey, former member of the French "Kieffer" Commando of D-Day, passed by.

Credit : AFP

I have already mentioned in this forum, when a former member of this unit passed by. My last report was in this post here , regarding Louis Bégot who died in March 2016. Before him, in February 2016, François Andriot, another former French commando, passed by in Wigmore, England, at the age of 94.

On May 20 2016, so five days ago, it was the turn of René Rossey, who passed by in Maurepas, nearby Paris, where he lived. René Rossey was the youngest of the 177 French braves who landed on June 6, 1944 on Sword beach, wearing their green beret by refusing to wear the English helmet.

René Rossey was the grandfather of Cédric Condon, who is the director of the movie Les Français du jour J, that i reported here and here . He was born in Tunis, territory under French influence at the time of the French colonies of Northern Africa. He had to lie about his real age to successfully sign up in the Free French Forces in 1941. He's the third who appears, at the beginning of the original French movie here , and here's what he says, at 00:51, this French from the other side of the Mediterranean Sea :

"Mais on était Français, pas de coeur simplement, on était Français pour défendre le pays, quoi hein ..." ( But we were French, not just by heart, we were French to defend the country, so, hu...).

After the disapearance of René Rossey, only 6 members of the former Kieffer Commando remains alive ...

R.I.P., soldier.

Nice TV Pat, I also have a Panasonic Viera but mine is old and not even full HD. Excellent TV however, but...I never watch television really, only very occasionally which is why I never bought a new one.
