And those who speak know nothing
And find out to their cost
Like those who curse their luck in too many places
And those who fear are lost

Well lads, here's another song, something different…

This is an old traditional song from Brittany. The title is Pelot d'Hennebont. This song is a letter that a French soldier wrote to his mother, during the Middle-Age wars in France. It talk that Pelot d'Hennebont, a king's Louis soldier, enter Paris with his regiment for killing all the nation's enemies. He's happy and proud because he ranked as corporal and hope to be general as soon as possible. For bravery in action, king Louis decorate him and call him "Sans-Quartier", that can be translated by "no mercy", and tell him to always fight the ennemy. But Pelot d'Hennebont, who is a simple soldier, answer the king that Sans-Quartier is not his name, and he don't know what is that ribbon the king gives to him ("something I don't know, with silver"). He tell to his mother that he believe that it's something precious because all the people call him "Sir" and salute him when they see him, but he don't care about to much. He tell to his mother that if he will die in action, she will keep this ribbon for remembering him…

A very very well knowed song here, writed in old French langage and performed with traditional music instruments by The Tri Yann, a major traditional band in Brittany… Enjoy…

Sorry lads, maybe i'm abusing, but you know, when we love we don't count...^^

Well, here's in the same style, another traditionnal song... This one is one of my favourites Tri-Yann titles...

The title is "Guerre, guerre, vente, vent", that can be translated as "War, war, wind, windy".

This song is also an old Brittany song. It talk about a sailor from my city of Lorient, soldier in the old king Louis French Royal Navy. It talk that, after seven years of fights at sea, the sailor has enough with war. War gives him only pain and suffering, without any gain, any money, any recognition, far from home, without seeing his childs growing up... He want peace now, missing his family. He's going home now, meeting his wife, childrens and friends, and say : "Go, tell to the captain that i have obey to much long !"

Something as an old "protest song" against the war...

"Les fleurs d'hiver étaient belles, elles annonçaient le printemps..." (The winter's flowers were beautiful, they were announcing the spring..."). Is this wind the wind of revolt...?

Don't be surprised about this "strange" site where the link is pointing... This title in this version is hard to find on the web... ôÔ
